NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Negative Social Media Content
NYSC Warns Against Negative Social Media Content

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has cautioned prospective corps members (PCMs) against creating and sharing negative content on social media that could damage the image of the scheme, warning that such actions may attract serious consequences.

Warning from the Coordinator

The warning was issued by the Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, during a briefing with PCMs at the start of their 21-day orientation camp, a mandatory program for all Nigerian graduates as part of the one-year national service. Her remarks followed the circulation of videos on social media that allegedly portrayed the Lagos orientation camp in a negative light.

Mrs. Salmwang emphasized that the Lagos NYSC orientation camp remains one of the best in the country. She noted that the camp is currently undergoing renovations, now in its third phase, to improve facilities.

Renovation and New Projects

She acknowledged the state government's efforts in addressing challenges and announced that the fourth renovation phase would commence immediately after the current camp session. Additionally, she revealed that a 16,000-capacity project in Agbowa, Ikorodu, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, providing a better camp experience for future corps members.

“At the moment, Lagos corps members are being posted to five different states. Please bear with us. This is the third phase of the renovation, and the fourth will be after you leave the camp,” she appealed.

Focus on Opportunities and Security

The coordinator urged PCMs to remain focused, highlighting the numerous opportunities available through the NYSC program. She explained that the scheme is built on four cardinal pillars: orientation course, primary assignment, community development service, and passing out parade, where certificates are issued to deserving corps members.

“The importance of this camp is to prepare you for the service ahead. As you are here, we are going to mentor you under our different programs outlined for you, from orientation to drills, lectures, and entrepreneurship,” she stated.

She also advised corps members to be security-conscious and report any suspicious activities. “Security is key, and we are well secured. If you are suspicious of anyone, please alert us. Be your brother’s keeper,” she stressed.

Furthermore, she cautioned against engaging in activities that could lead to an extension of their service year.
