Ogun Police Debunk Viral Video of Armed Bandits

The Ogun State Police Command has officially debunked a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly showed armed bandits operating in a forest within the state. In a statement released by the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the footage was described as false, misleading, and recycled from an old incident in Kenya.

Fact-Check Reveals True Origin

Preliminary findings and fact-checks conducted by the command revealed that the video, which depicts individuals cooking in a bush setting, was originally recorded in Kenya during a General Service Unit operation involving cattle rustlers. It was first uploaded online in 2022 and has now been recirculated to create panic among residents of Ogun State.

Commissioner Condemns Spread of Unverified Content

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the spread of the unverified video, noting that it was deliberately recirculated to misinform the public about the security situation in Ogun. He emphasized that there is no intelligence or operational report supporting claims of any such criminal presence within forests or any part of the state. The command remains committed to ensuring safety through intelligence-led policing and strategic deployments.

Public Urged to Rely on Official Channels

CP Ojajuni urged residents to disregard the video completely and avoid sharing unverified information that could incite fear or disrupt public peace. He advised the public to rely only on official channels for security updates and to report any suspicious activities via the command's emergency lines. The commissioner warned that spreading false and inciting content will not be tolerated, and legal action may be taken against offenders.
