Police end 48-hour standoff after suspect falls asleep on roof

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) brought a 48-hour rooftop standoff in Salford, England, to a conclusion after the suspect fell asleep on top of a small rooftop structure, allowing officers to climb up and bring him down while he was unconscious. The 37-year-old man was wanted on recall to prison.

How the standoff unfolded

The incident began on Thursday, 13 August 2026, at a property on Reservoir Street. GMP had been attempting to arrest the man at the request of another force. The standoff caused disruption to the local community and damage to nearby properties.

On Saturday, 15 August, the suspect fell asleep on the roof. Tactical Aid Unit officers then climbed a ladder and pulled him from the roof while he was asleep. A struggle broke out as he was pulled down the ladder, and his trousers appeared to fall down during the struggle before he was formally arrested in the garden.
