The Coalition for Security Awareness and National Stability (CSANS) has publicly condemned social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for what it describes as a deliberate and malicious campaign of defamation against Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Jimoh Moshood. In a statement issued on July 29, 2026, in Abuja, CSANS warned that such attacks risk eroding public trust in Nigeria's security institutions and called on intelligence agencies to investigate potential sponsors behind the coordinated smear campaign.
CSANS Defends AIG Moshood's Three Decades of Service
The advocacy group, through its National Coordinator, Comrade Ibrahim Musa, highlighted AIG Moshood's nearly three decades of meritorious service in the Nigeria Police Force. According to CSANS, Moshood rose through the ranks solely on merit, progressing from a junior officer to Force Public Relations Officer, then Commissioner of Police, and now Assistant Inspector General of Police. The group described this trajectory as evidence of consistent professional excellence.
CSANS drew particular attention to Moshood's tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, which it characterized as a period of intensified, intelligence-driven policing. During his command, the Lagos State Police Command conducted coordinated operations against criminal gangs, cultists, kidnappers, and armed robbers. The group noted that Moshood personally led tactical operations, built stronger community engagement structures, and achieved measurable reductions in crime rates across the state.
Group Urges Due Process Over Social Media Trials
CSANS argued that while public officials remain accountable, the proper channels for addressing allegations are courts, investigative bodies, and oversight institutions—not social media platforms.
"Social media is not a court of law. No individual, irrespective of his popularity, has been appointed judge, prosecutor, and executioner over Nigeria's security institutions," the group stated.
The coalition also raised broader concerns about VDM's conduct towards government agencies, citing publicly available videos of him confronting officials from the Vehicle Inspection Office, the Police, the Department of State Services, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other bodies. CSANS warned that sustained campaigns to ridicule security agencies could embolden criminal elements and weaken citizens' confidence in law enforcement.
CSANS Welcomes Constructive Criticism, Warns Against Derailment
While acknowledging VDM's campaigns against human rights violations, CSANS expressed readiness to collaborate on genuine issues but stressed that they would not tolerate what they see as a derailment from constructive and objective criticism.
"We welcome VDM's campaigns against human rights violations, and we are ready to work with him in handling any genuine issues he raises. But we will also not fold our arms and watch him derail from the very essence of constructive and objective criticism," the statement read.
The coalition urged intelligence agencies to investigate any activities that could threaten public order and called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Nigeria Police Force. "National security is too important to become a casualty of social media sensationalism," the statement concluded.
AIG Moshood's Record Open for Scrutiny
CSANS emphasized that AIG Moshood's career achievements are a matter of public record. "His records remain available for public scrutiny. Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself as one of the finest officers the Nigeria Police Force has produced," the group said.
The statement comes amid ongoing public debate fueled by VDM's viral videos questioning the police handling of the Ajiran murder case, where two people were killed in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. In response, AIG Moshood has assured that justice will prevail in the trial of the suspect.
