Seven Injured as Two-Storey Building Collapses in Abuja's Jikwoyi Area

A two-storey building under construction collapsed in Abuja on Friday, April 3, resulting in injuries to seven individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 11:00am in the Jikwoyi area, located within the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Emergency Response and Rescue Operations

According to a statement from Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Department, rescue operations were immediately activated following the collapse. The FEMD Search and Rescue Team reported that seventeen workers were present on the upper floor of the building when it gave way.

Five of these workers sustained injuries, while a male individual at ground level was trapped but subsequently rescued by emergency personnel. All injured parties, including the rescued victim, were transported to the Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi and are currently responding to treatment.

The scene was attended by a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including:

FEMD confirmed that excavation at the site is ongoing to ground level to ensure no additional victims remain trapped beneath the rubble. The building collapse highlights ongoing concerns regarding construction safety standards in rapidly developing urban areas.
