Tragedy Strikes During Minister's Visit

A young man has lost his life and six others sustained injuries following a devastating stampede that occurred at the residence of Defense Minister Bello Matawalle in Gusau on Thursday evening. The incident took place around 7:30 PM on November 13, 2025, as residents gathered in large numbers to welcome the minister to the state capital.

Chaotic Scene Unfolds

What began as a peaceful gathering quickly escalated into chaos as the crowd surged toward the entrance of the minister's residence. Witnesses reported that the number of people present far exceeded the capacity of the space, overwhelming local security operatives. The pressure of bodies pushing forward caused several individuals to fall, triggering panic and a dangerous crush.

Security personnel were swiftly deployed to restore order and cordon off the area. Investigators immediately began examining how the crowd became unmanageable and whether security arrangements were adequate for the event.

Victims Identified and Treated

Medical personnel confirmed the deceased as 23-year-old Khalifa Uzairu, who was rushed to Farida General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. The six injured victims were identified as:

  • Ayuba Sani
  • Muhammadu Adams
  • Aliyu Aminu
  • Shaaban Hamisu
  • Inusa Musa Shehu

All surviving victims received treatment at the same medical facility, with hospital staff describing their condition as stable. Security teams questioned witnesses and examined the entry routes used by the crowd as part of their investigation.

Trucks were later deployed to assist with crowd dispersal as authorities launched formal inquiries to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal outcome during what was meant to be a simple reception for the minister.
