A three-storey building collapsed at OGS Bus Stop, Baale Road, Ajuwon, Ogun State, resulting in three fatalities and the rescue of 12 survivors. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 27, trapping residents beneath the rubble.
Casualties and Rescue Operations
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that the deceased included an adult woman, a baby girl, and a 75-year-old man. Search and rescue operations continued into Tuesday, July 28, with LASEMA deploying its elite response team and heavy-duty equipment on the directive of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to support Ogun State Government efforts.
Collaborative Response
Rescue operations were carried out in collaboration with the Ogun State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Ogun State Fire Service, the Amotekun Corps, and other emergency responders. LASEMA also reported that a preliminary structural assessment revealed that an adjoining bungalow had been severely weakened by the collapse and now posed a safety risk.
Demolition of Adjacent Structure
The affected adjoining structure will undergo controlled demolition to prevent a secondary collapse and ensure the safety of rescue workers and residents in the area.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, stated: "This deployment reflects the vision of Mr. Governor that disaster knows no boundaries. Lagos, as a Centre of Excellence and a First Responder State, has both the capacity and the responsibility to support our neighbours in times of distress." He urged the public to stay away from the scene to allow rescue personnel unrestricted access and called on property owners and developers to comply strictly with building regulations and carry out periodic structural integrity tests to prevent similar incidents.
