The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspect for shooting a man with a bow and arrow in Tarmuwa Local Government Area. The suspect allegedly found the victim in a compromising situation with his wife near her parents' residence.
SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command's spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The incident occurred at Danewa-Biriri Village, Tarmuwa LGA, leading to serious injuries for the victim.
Police Statement on the Shooting
“The Command is investigating a case of causing grievous hurt reported at Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters,” the statement read. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident followed an allegation that a 22-year-old suspect allegedly discovered his wife in a compromising situation with another man near her parents' residence.”
“In the ensuing altercation, the suspect reportedly shot the victim with a bow and arrow, inflicting serious injuries.” The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Damaturu, while the suspect has been arrested. “Investigation is in progress to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident, after which appropriate legal action will be taken.”
Additional Arrests for Fraud and Vandalism
In a separate development, the command arrested five other suspects over fraud and vandalism of a community transformer in Damaturu and Fika LGA. On August 6, 2026, operatives of 'A' Division, Damaturu, responded to a fraud report from July 31, 2026, where unknown persons fraudulently obtained one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice from a shop along Ajari–Gashua Road.
Detectives launched a discreet investigation, leading to the arrest of Mohammed Sani, 26, and Ali Isa Waziri, 25, both from Damaturu. During interrogation, the suspects confessed, and the stolen food items were recovered as exhibits.
Transformer Vandalism and Community Response
On the same day, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report about unidentified persons vandalising a community transformer and carting away its power cable. Police operatives, with community members and local vigilantes, trailed the suspects, arresting Ibrahim Musa, 23, of Bizagula Ward, Potiskum, in possession of the stolen cable.
Musa confessed, leading to two additional arrests. The stolen power cable was recovered, and investigation is ongoing to dismantle the criminal network.
Commissioner of Police Urges Law-Abiding Conduct
Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, SM.ICM, urged the public to remain law-abiding, avoid taking the law into their own hands, safeguard critical public infrastructure, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation for immediate intervention.
