13 Injured, Including Three Children, in Ogun State Auto Crash
A severe auto crash occurred at Odogbolu junction along the Ijebu-Ode road in Ogun State, resulting in injuries to 13 individuals, including three children. The incident involved two vehicles: a Blue Toyota Varso with registration number FKJ 492 HT and an Ash Mercedes Benz with registration number KJA 14 KK.
Official Confirmation and Rescue Efforts
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the details in a statement released from Abeokuta. According to Akinbiyi, a total of 18 people were involved in the accident, comprising 10 males, five females, and three children. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported, but all 13 injured passengers sustained varying degrees of harm.
Rescue operations were swiftly conducted by a joint team including TRACE operatives, the Amotekun security network, and the Nigerian Police. These efforts ensured that the injured victims received prompt medical attention.
Cause of the Accident
The TRACE Information Officer attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed on the part of the driver of the Ash Mercedes Benz. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the driver, who was inbound to Sagamu, lost control of the vehicle, leading to a head-on collision with the Blue Toyota Varso, which was traveling toward Odogbolu junction.
Akinbiyi emphasized that the reckless driving behavior was the primary factor in the incident, highlighting the dangers of speeding on public roads.
Medical Treatment and Traffic Impact
The injured victims were transported to IDERA Hospital in Odogbolu and BABCOCK University Hospital for medical treatment, facilitated by the Amotekun corps. This timely response helped in managing the injuries effectively.
Initially, the accident caused significant traffic disruption in the area as rescue missions were underway. However, Akinbiyi noted that traffic flow had since returned to normalcy, allowing for smoother movement along the Ijebu-Ode road.
