Tragic Road Accident Claims Three Lives in Gombe State
A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of three individuals on the Gombe-Yola Road in Gombe State. The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, around 9:00 p.m. near the Kashere junction in Akko Local Government Area.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander in Gombe State, Samson Kaura, the accident resulted from wrongful overtaking that led to a head-on collision between vehicles. The sector commander confirmed that six other people sustained various degrees of injuries during the tragic incident.
Kaura disclosed this information to journalists in Gombe on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, providing crucial details about the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Gombe.
FRSC Safety Warnings and Recommendations
The FRSC sector commander emphasized the dangers of night driving and inappropriate speed management. "We always advise against night driving, speed, wrongful overtaking, among others. Though it is the right of anyone to drive at night, if it is not necessary, kindly avoid it," Kaura stated.
He further explained that the vehicles involved in the crash were speeding despite driving at night, highlighting the increased risks associated with nighttime travel. "At night, we must drive with extra caution and maintain a reasonable speed because the car you think is far off may just be closer than you think," the sector commander warned.
Kaura urged all motorists to prioritize safety over speed and to adopt driving habits that don't endanger themselves or other road users. The FRSC continues to emphasize the importance of:
- Avoiding unnecessary night journeys
- Maintaining safe speeds, especially after dark
- Exercising extreme caution when overtaking
- Conducting proper vehicle checks before long trips
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures on Nigerian highways, particularly on busy routes like the Gombe-Yola Road that connect major communities in northeastern Nigeria.
