A devastating road traffic incident has resulted in the death of a cyclist in Lagos State. The fatal collision occurred on Monday, February 9, involving a DAF articulated truck and a bicycle in the Ikeja area.

The accident took place under the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Bridge, specifically at the traffic signal corridor along the busy Airport Road. According to an official statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, both vehicles were approaching from the Maryland axis when the tragedy unfolded.
Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel reveal that the cyclist and the heavy-duty truck were simultaneously attempting to navigate the roundabout situated underneath the bridge. During this critical maneuver, the cyclist reportedly failed to maintain a safe distance from the moving commercial vehicle.
Immediate Aftermath and Official Response
The situation escalated rapidly, with the cyclist being violently crushed by the truck and sustaining fatal injuries on the spot. LASTMA operatives present at the scene acted swiftly to intercept the truck driver, who had attempted to flee following the collision.
Adebayo Taofiq, Head of LASTMA's Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, confirmed that the suspect driver has been handed over to officers from the Ikeja Police Division. The case will undergo thorough investigation and potential prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
