Man hit by vehicle while defecating on Lagos-Ibadan road

A bizarre and unfortunate accident occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a man was struck by a vehicle while he was attempting to defecate in a roadside ditch. The incident, which left the victim with serious injuries, was confirmed by traffic officials.

How the Accident Happened

The accident was triggered by a sudden tyre burst. According to the official statement from the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), a Lexus Jeep with registration number AAA 444 JP was in motion when one of its tyres failed. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle completely.

The out-of-control Jeep then veered off the road and plunged into the very ditch where the man had gone to answer the call of nature. The impact resulted in the man being hit by the vehicle.

Rescue and Response by Authorities

Multiple agencies swiftly responded to the scene. The TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that personnel from the police, TRACE, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were immediately deployed for the rescue mission. Their coordinated effort was crucial in managing the aftermath of the crash.

Akinbiyi confirmed that only two individuals were involved in this particular incident: the driver of the Lexus Jeep and the injured victim who was in the ditch.

Aftermath and Current Status

The victim sustained varying degrees of injuries from the collision and required urgent medical attention. He was promptly transported to Famobis Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the accident vehicle, the Lexus Jeep, was towed away from the expressway to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.

This shocking event highlights the dangers present on major highways, not just from moving traffic but also from unforeseen mechanical failures like tyre bursts. It serves as a stark reminder for both motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and for pedestrians to exercise extreme caution near high-speed roads.
