Tragic Collision Claims Life on Busy Ogun Expressway
A devastating road accident has claimed one life on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday when a Man Diesel truck collided with a motorcycle at Iyana-Ologbo, resulting in immediate death for one victim.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The collision involved a Blue Man Diesel truck with registration number EPE 513 YJ and a red BAJAJ Boxer motorcycle registered as WDE 403 VQ. According to official reports from the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the truck driver was traveling at excessive speed when he rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, TRACE spokesperson, confirmed the tragic details in a statement released from Abeokuta. Two passengers were involved in the crash, with remarkably no injuries reported apart from the single fatality. The deceased, identified as a male adult, died instantly at the scene.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Following the accident, emergency services swiftly responded to manage the situation. TRACE operatives from the Owode/Ijako Unit Command, supported by Ifo MTD, worked to clear the resulting traffic buildup and restore normal flow along the busy expressway.
The body of the deceased has been transported to Ifo General Hospital's morgue for proper handling. Authorities have completed initial investigations at the crash site, confirming that excessive speed by the truck driver directly caused the tragic incident.
Additional Road Accidents in Ogun State
In a separate but related development, Ogun State witnessed another serious road incident earlier in the week. On Monday, a multiple vehicle collision at Omoyele Junction on the Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway left 15 people injured.
This second accident involved an unregistered Mack truck, a Toyota Highlander (AKD 29 JZ), a Suzuki mini bus (popularly known as korope), and a motorcycle. The victims included twelve adult males and three females, all of whom sustained various injuries.
TRACE spokesperson Akinbiyi attributed this incident similarly to excessive speed, noting that the truck driver lost control before colliding with the other vehicles. Emergency services including TRACE operatives and police personnel conducted rescue operations and cleared the accident vehicles from the roadway.
Another incident occurred on Monday when a container-laden truck crashed at Ijagun along the Ijebu-Ode/Benin City expressway. Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) operatives evacuated victims to General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, while TRACE officials created traffic diversions to manage the resulting gridlock.
Authorities Issue Safety Warning
In light of these consecutive accidents, TRACE has issued a strong advisory to all motorists operating in Ogun State. Akinbiyi emphasized the critical need for drivers to reduce their speed and exercise greater caution on the roads.
The recent cluster of accidents highlights ongoing concerns about road safety along major expressways in Ogun State. Authorities continue to monitor these high-risk areas while urging compliance with traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
