Enugu Boosts Security with Drones, Patrol Vans

In a significant move to enhance the protection of lives and property, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has officially commissioned a fleet of advanced security assets. The equipment, acquired through the Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF), was unveiled at the Government House in Enugu on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

High-Tech Arsenal for a Safer State

The newly inaugurated security hardware includes two state-of-the-art drones and ten Hilux vehicles (4x4). The ground and aerial units are complemented by forty motorcycles for agile patrols. To ensure the safety of security personnel, the government also procured four hundred bulletproof vests and four hundred bulletproof helmets.

Governor Mbah emphasized that these new resources are not standalone solutions but are designed to integrate with his administration's existing security infrastructure. This includes a sophisticated Command and Control Centre, a network of AI-powered surveillance cameras across the state, and more than 150 Distress Response Squad vehicles already equipped with AI-embedded cameras.

Local Solutions for Local Challenges

While addressing the gathering, Governor Mbah stressed that security challenges often have local dimensions, requiring state-level action. He affirmed his government's commitment to playing its part in ensuring safety at the community level. "The security challenges we are having are local, and at the state level, we must also play our own role to ensure our localities are safe," Mbah stated. "So, these items will be deployed to ensure Enugu State remains the safest state in this country."

The Governor also acknowledged the collaborative efforts with the federal government, assuring continued cooperation with President Bola Tinubu's administration in its nationwide drive for security.

No Hiding Place for Criminals

During the ceremony, the Chairman of the ESSTF, Ike Chioke, represented by board member Nath Udeh, delivered a strong message to criminal elements. He declared that the new equipment leaves no hiding place for criminals and will significantly boost the governor's vision of positioning Enugu as the premier state for safe living and investment.

Justifying the substantial investment, a trustee of the ESSTF and the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onyekachi Onyia, highlighted the strategic importance of Enugu's security. He noted that the state's stability is crucial for the security of the entire South-East region and the legacy of the defunct Eastern Region.

This deployment marks a concrete step in Governor Mbah's strategy to leverage technology and robust equipment in creating a secure environment conducive for economic growth and social well-being.
