The Nigerian Navy has dismantled three illegal refining sites in Rivers State, recovering 91,000 litres of crude oil and 4,500 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), according to a statement by the Eastern Naval Command.

The operation, conducted by troops of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder under the Eastern Naval Command, targeted illegal refining sites in the Cawthorne Channel and Krakrama areas of Rivers State. The navy said the sites were used for the illegal refining of stolen crude oil, contributing to economic losses and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta.
During the raids, naval personnel discovered and dismantled three makeshift refining ovens, along with associated equipment used in the illegal process. The recovered crude oil and AGO were secured as evidence, while the sites were rendered inoperable to prevent further use.
