The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, describing recent violent incidents in multiple states as alarming indicators of the country's security crisis.
Multiple Attacks Draw Widespread Condemnation
In a statement released on Wednesday, Reverend Joseph John Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN, expressed profound sorrow over three major security incidents that have shaken the nation. The association specifically highlighted the attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State where worshippers were killed and several abducted during religious service.
The religious body also condemned the killing of a senior military officer, identified as a General, by ISWAP terrorists in Borno State. This incident represents a significant blow to the nation's counter-insurgency efforts in the northeast region.
Additionally, Northern CAN denounced the abduction of school children in Kebbi State, noting the recurring pattern of attacks on educational institutions across northern Nigeria.
Northern CAN's Response and Demands
Reverend Hayab stated that the association stands in full solidarity with all victims, their families, and affected communities during this difficult period. He emphasized that the pain and trauma experienced by families who have lost loved ones or have children in captivity cannot be overstated.
"Northern CAN is praying for comfort for the bereaved, divine healing for the injured, and the safe return of all abducted persons," Hayab declared in the statement dated November 19, 2025.
While acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces, the association warned that the resurgence of terror attacks appears deliberate and aimed at further destabilizing the country. They urged military personnel not to allow these incidents to diminish their morale.
Call for Enhanced Security Measures
The religious leader called on new security chiefs and troops to intensify operations and demonstrate renewed determination to defeat insurgents, bandits, and other criminal networks threatening national peace.
Hayab further appealed to the Federal Government to redouble efforts in securing schools, worship centers, and vulnerable communities. He stressed that Nigerians expect decisive action to ensure those behind these heinous crimes are arrested and prosecuted.
"We need to give victims assurance that justice will be served," he emphasized, describing the attacks as unacceptable acts of evil that must not be allowed to fester.
The association concluded by calling for stronger collaboration between security agencies, state governments, and community structures to prevent further tragedies and protect citizens across all regions of Nigeria.
