OPC Calls for International Cooperation Against Terrorism

The Oodua People's Congress has made a significant appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to establish both Nigerian and international partnerships to combat the growing threats of terrorism, kidnapping, and killings perpetrated by non-state actors across the nation.

This urgent call came on Tuesday, November 11, following recent statements from former US President Donald Trump indicating his willingness to deploy American forces to help eliminate terrorist elements that have made Nigeria increasingly dangerous.

Grassroots Intelligence Network Offered

In an official statement released by the organization's Secretary-General, the OPC emphasized their deep presence at grassroots levels throughout Yorubaland and beyond, including South-West states, Kogi, Kwara, Edo, and Delta states.

The group highlighted their unique positioning within communities, markets, border towns, and rural corridors where critical intelligence can be gathered about suspicious activities and criminal movements.

OPC members committed to serving as community eyes and ears, establishing dedicated communication channels to relay verified information to security agencies without bureaucratic delays.

Structured Partnership with Security Agencies

The Yoruba organization expressed readiness to formalize collaboration with Nigeria's security apparatus, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Armed Forces.

Their proposed partnership includes: community surveillance, intelligence gathering, public education on reporting suspicious activities, and focused monitoring of border and forested areas known to harbor criminal elements.

The OPC specifically stressed their commitment to operating within legal boundaries, avoiding any form of jungle justice while complementing official security efforts.

Additionally, the group called on the Federal Government to pressure the United States and other developed nations to freeze assets belonging to terrorism financiers operating in Nigeria and internationally.

The organization concluded by reaffirming their dedication to ensuring Yorubaland remains a region of safety, economic growth, and communal harmony within a stable Nigeria.
