Suspected Fulani militias killed at least 23 people, including women and children, in Binper community, Bwai District, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when the militias reportedly infiltrated Binper from the neighbouring Bokkos axis through an isolated route, according to the National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Bulus Dabit.
Attack Details and Eyewitness Account
Dabit said the attackers invaded the community around midnight while victims were asleep. An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, told Daily Trust that the heavily armed attackers moved from house to house, forcing their way in and attacking residents in their sleep.
“Our village came under attack last night and in the early hours of today, Tuesday. Heavily armed persons were moving from house to house, opening the doors of people who were sleeping and slaughtering them,” Musa said.
Casualty Figures and Missing Persons
Musa added, “As of this morning, we have confirmed over 20 deaths, while several others sustained serious injuries and some people are still missing.” The confirmed death toll stands at 23, including women and children.
Security Response and Ongoing Situation
Security officials had not commented on the incident as of the time of filing the report. The attack targeted a predominantly farming community, raising concerns about the safety of rural residents in the area.
The incident adds to a series of violent attacks in Plateau State, which has seen recurring communal clashes and militia violence.
