Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a terrorist ambush that followed an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation along the Damboa–Kumala road in Borno state. The incident occurred at approximately 1pm on Saturday, July 4, according to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region.
Details of the Attack
The troops, supported by members of the civilian joint task force (CJTF), were escorting 63 civilian vehicles to Kumala when the convoy encountered an IED on the main supply route linking Damboa, Bulabulin, and Kumala. Shortly after the explosion, suspected terrorists launched an ambush about two kilometers from the blast site.
The explosion damaged the tyres of two mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, but no casualties were recorded among the troops or the civilians under escort. The troops quickly replaced the damaged tyres at the scene and completed the escort mission.
Mission Completion and Return
After ensuring the safe arrival of the civilian vehicles in Kumala, the troops escorted 71 civilian vehicles back to Damboa, demonstrating their commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining security on critical supply routes.
Military sources told Makama that the operation highlighted the resolve of Operation Hadin Kai to keep critical supply routes open and ensure the safe movement of civilians despite persistent terrorist threats in the north-east.
