Their mission is to compete in the second edition of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Global Contingent Touches Down in Nigeria
Organisers confirmed on Wednesday that a formidable team of world-class athletes has landed in the country. The contingent includes elite runners from powerhouse nations in long-distance running, such as Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda, with others expected to join them. Their early arrival allows for acclimatisation and final preparations, signalling the high-stakes nature of the competition.
The event's management company, Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), in partnership with the title sponsor, PremiumTrust Bank, is putting the finishing touches on all arrangements. Officials are finalising city infrastructure, race routes, and volunteer logistics to ensure a seamless and "world-class" experience for both the international stars and local community runners participating.
A World Athletics-Label Event
A significant boost for this year's marathon is its official endorsement by World Athletics. The event has earned the governing body's official label for the second consecutive year, a prestigious accreditation that underscores the organisers' commitment to international standards. This recognition is a strategic step in positioning Abuja as a major hub on Africa's long-distance running calendar.
Race Director and Olympian, Yusuf Alli, provided assurances on Wednesday that everything is on track for a successful event. "We have put everything in place," Alli stated, expressing confidence in the preparations. Once all athletes are in Abuja, formal route tours and final preparatory checks will be conducted to ensure every detail is perfected for race day.

The presence of these elite athletes is expected to dramatically intensify the competition and elevate the event's overall standard. Organisers believe this high-level participation will serve a dual purpose:
