The Kano State Government has officially presented the jersey that will be worn by participants in the upcoming Cycling Kano 2025 event. The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday, December 18, 2025, setting the stage for the main cycling event scheduled for Saturday, December 20.
Unveiling Ceremony and Jersey Design
The jersey was revealed at the office of the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Sani Musa Danja. The design of the jersey is not just for sport; it is a canvas that reflects the rich cultural heritage and unity of Kano State. Governor His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, was present at the event, underscoring the administration's commitment to the project.
A Movement for Wellness and Community
In his remarks, Sani Musa Danja emphasized that Cycling Kano is more than a race. He described it as a grassroots movement aimed at promoting wellness, discipline, and community bonding among residents. The jersey serves as a symbol of shared identity and the state's determination to become a hub for sporting excellence under Governor Yusuf's leadership.
The initiative is a key part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's broader agenda to use sports as a tool for youth empowerment, healthy living, and social cohesion. It aims to position cycling as a competitive sport, a fitness activity, and an eco-friendly transport alternative.
Event Logistics and Sponsorship
The cycling event is set to commence at 7:00 a.m. from the Emir's Palace in Kano. The government has assured participants and spectators that comprehensive security and medical arrangements are in place, following the governor's directive to ensure safety.
The 2025 edition enjoys strong backing from sponsors. The lead sponsors are the Kano State Government, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, and the NNPC. Additional support comes from Peak Yogurt and CWAY. The government has commended these partners and is calling on residents to come out in large numbers to participate and cheer on the cyclists, who are expected from across the state and beyond.
