Scotland manager Steve Clarke stormed out of a post-match television interview after his team suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat to Brazil in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match, held in Miami, saw Brazil secure top spot in Group C with goals from Vinicius Junior and Matheus Cunha, leaving Scotland's knockout stage hopes in jeopardy.
Defeat leaves Scotland waiting
The result meant Scotland finished third in Group C with three points. They must now wait for the remaining group matches to conclude to see if they qualify as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams. Speaking to BBC Sport shortly after the final whistle, Clarke expressed frustration. “We made it difficult for ourselves. That’s it,” he said. “We gave them the goals and the game. Disappointing.”
When asked about Scotland's chances of advancing and the anxious wait ahead, Clarke abruptly ended the interview. “I can’t even think about that. Sorry, I can’t even think about it,” he said before walking away. The Scotland manager has previously voiced his dislike of immediate post-match interviews conducted on the pitch moments after games.
Clarke's history with pitchside interviews
Following Scotland's 1-0 defeat to Morocco earlier in the tournament, Clarke had a similarly brief interview that lasted less than a minute. He remarked, “I don’t know why we do these,” during that exchange. The pattern suggests a growing frustration with the format.
Scotland's World Cup campaign now hangs in the balance as they await the conclusion of other group-stage fixtures. The round of 32 beckons if they finish among the best third-placed teams, but elimination looms if they fall short.
