Tobi Amusan Confirmed for $2.1m Athlos Series

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been officially confirmed to compete in the $2.1 million Athlos all-female track and field series, with events scheduled for London and New York this year. The Nigerian athlete, who holds the world record in the women's 100m hurdles, will participate in her specialist event at both legs of the series.

Event Schedule and Prize Structure

The London event is set for September 18, while the New York edition will take place on October 2. Organisers announced the confirmation on Wednesday, stating: "The world record holder is coming to Athlos. Tobi is taking on what she does best, the 100m hurdles. Watch her compete this fall at ATHLOS LDN & NYC!!"

Athlos, founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, features seven events: the 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, and long jump. The series boasts a total prize purse of $2.1 million, with athletes able to earn up to $65,000 for winning an individual event and an additional $25,000 for taking the overall title. Athletes will also receive equity in the league.

Equity Model and Athlete Compensation

In addition to the prize pot of $2.1 million (£1.5 million), athletes will be offered equity in the league, meaning they will be rewarded if the series is successful. Ohanian explained to the BBC in May: "The cash compensates their participation and success, and the equity recognises what we're building together. If we get this right, it should properly place these amazing athletes on the same level as they are every four years during the Olympics."

He added: "This equity is a way for us to have a real partnership. These are the athletes who are the first movers, the ones who are taking a leap and helping us get this started." Athletes can earn up to $65,000 in each individual event, while overall champions will receive an additional $25,000, meaning an athlete winning in both cities could pocket $155,000.

Star-Studded Lineup

Amusan will line up alongside several global stars, including Sha'Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Tara Woodhall-Davis, Masai Russell, and Marileidy Paulino, who have also been confirmed for the series. Seven disciplines will be contested in both London and New York, with an athlete's combined points determining the overall event winner.
