Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan delivered an impressive performance on the international stage, securing third place in the women's 100m hurdles as the 2026 Diamond League season kicked off in Shanghai on Saturday, May 16.
The Nigerian athlete, who recently clinched gold at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana last week, recorded a season's best time of 12.41 seconds. She finished behind Olympic champion Masai Russell and Bahamian star Devynne Charlton.
Russell produced a dominant display to win the race in a meeting record and world-leading time of 12.25 seconds, improving on her previous world lead of 12.40 seconds. Charlton, the reigning world indoor champion, came second in 12.38 seconds in one of her strongest outdoor performances to date.
Amusan's third-place finish and faster time represent a positive step forward for the Commonwealth Games champion. Her 12.41-second effort on Saturday marks her quickest outing of the 2026 campaign so far and offers encouraging signs for the remainder of the outdoor season.
