The WTT Contender Lagos officially begins today at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, featuring some of the world's top table tennis players. Among the headliners are Denmark's Anders Lind and Japan's Honoka Hashimoto, who are set to captivate fans with their elite skills.
Prize Money and Ranking Points at Stake
This year's tournament offers a total prize pool of $100,000 and 400 ITTF ranking points, attracting a highly competitive field. Lind, the reigning men's champion and world No. 16, aims to continue his strong 2026 form with another victory on African soil. However, he faces stiff competition from Japan's Shunsuke Togami (world No. 18), Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov (2024 champion), and France's ambitious Thibault Poret. Nigeria's Olajide Omotayo also returns for his third WTT Series appearance this season. With 21 players ranked inside the Top 100, the men's singles promises thrilling matches.
Women's Competition Heats Up
The women's event is equally exciting, with Japan's Satsuki Odo ready to challenge compatriot Honoka Hashimoto for the title. Other contenders include Japan's Hitomi Sato, Korea's Joo Cheonhui, and India's Yashaswini Ghorpade, all eager to claim the crown.
