CBN Tennis: Top Seeds Reach Quarterfinals in Abuja

The women's top seeds at the ongoing CBN Senior Tennis Championship are living up to their rating. On Wednesday at the tennis courts of the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, number one seed Khadijat Mohammed proved that her top rating is no fluke by defeating wildcard entrant Toluwalose Agunbiade 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. She will face Favour Godwin in today's quarterfinal match.

Other Women's Matches

Another top-rated star, Mary Udofia, recorded a 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) victory over Blessing Otu, while Success Ogunjobi defeated Gloria Samuel 6-0, 6-3 to earn a chance to face Udofia in the quarterfinals. Blessing Omotayo, who beat Abosede Bamidele 6-2, 6-2 in the second round, will take on seed 2, Bright Emmanuel-Essien, to determine who moves into the semifinals. Etoro Bassey will face Nenro Suwa, who defeated Abosede Olaniyan 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) to reach the quarterfinals.

Men's Singles Category

In the men's singles category, seed 1, Canice Abua, who defeated Musa Sani 6-4, 6-3, will meet Dahiru Mohammed in the quarterfinals. Mohammed beat Sunday Chinedu 6-1, 6-2, while Chima Michael, who beat Yahaya Sani 6-2, 6-2, will face David Edward, a wildcard entrant into the main draw.
