National Sports Commission Celebrates Sarah Ogoke's Illustrious Career
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has publicly honored and eulogized former captain of Nigeria's women's national basketball team, D'Tigress, Sarah Ogoke, following her official announcement of retirement from the squad at the age of 35. The retirement ceremony took place in Lyon, France, in front of her teammates, organized by Xejet, the official partners of the team, in a vibrant and memorable event.

NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, expressed immense pride in Ogoke's contributions over more than a decade as a national team player. He emphasized that the entire country holds her in high esteem for her dedication and achievements. "We are proud of you as a Commission, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also very proud of you for all you have given to the country," Dikko stated. He further noted that First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu connects deeply with Ogoke's ability to inspire millions of women and girls across Nigeria and beyond, praising her resilience, determination, and purpose as a player, mother, wife, and medical doctor.

NSC Director General, Bukola Olopade, described Ogoke as a living legend in Nigerian basketball, whose inspiring story serves as a model for future generations of athletes. "We don't have too many of Sarah Ogokes around, and for us at the NSC, you mirror what Nigerian sports should truly look like," Olopade remarked. He highlighted her exceptional ability to balance a successful sports career with quality education as a medical doctor and a thriving married life, setting a powerful example for aspiring athletes.
