A concerned Nigerian woman has strongly criticized the recent celebrity boxing match between streamer Carter Efe and singer Portable, specifically calling out a dangerous move that she believes warrants a lifetime ban for Carter Efe. The match, titled Chaos in the Ring 4, took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, and ended with Carter Efe winning via a unanimous decision.
Woman Raises Alarm Over Rabbit Punch
In a Facebook post on May 2, the woman, identified as Nne Sophia, expressed her alarm at a particular punch delivered by Carter Efe to the back of Portable's head, known as a 'rabbit punch.' She emphasized that boxing is a regulated and dangerous sport, and allowing two non-professional boxers to engage without strict adherence to rules is reckless.
Nne Sophia explained that the back of the head, or occiput, houses the brainstem, which controls vital functions such as breathing and heart rate. She cited the case of Prichard Colón, a former professional boxer whose life was tragically altered after receiving a similar punch in 2015. According to her, the match should have been stopped immediately after the illegal blow, and Carter Efe should have been handed a lifetime ban.
Her statement read in part: 'I was alarmed when I saw Carter Efe gave Portable a dangerous punch to the back of his head called a rabbit punch. This is a very dangerous thing to do as it can lead to serious disability or death. A blow there can lead to respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, spinal cord snapping, brain bleed, or paralysis.'
Public Reactions to the Incident
The woman's observation sparked a debate online, with many social media users sharing their thoughts. Miebaka Bennett commented, 'That was quite a hit, I just hope he's getting a thorough medical checkup.' Nwa Ọjịugo added, 'I thought he was going to be disqualified but he did that intentionally, it was not in error.'
Others expressed concern about the seriousness of the match. Stanley Ubah said, 'At first I thought the whole thing will be a sort of mock-boxing, never knew they would be serious about throwing real punches.' Nsikak Effiong noted, 'That means if anything happens to Portable in the next 6 months, we can attribute it to that punch.'
Some users reflected on the risks involved in such events. One user wrote, 'Anybody wey chose to play with his or her brain and the entire head, make e continue. As for me, my walk around tiles continues 2027.'
Carter Efe's Victory and New Name
Following his victory, Carter Efe announced a new name, claiming that the win made him feel like a world star, reaching beyond Nigeria. Portable, however, accused the organizers of cheating and blamed Carter Efe's body size for his loss. The match has generated significant buzz both in the arena and on social media, with many calling for stricter regulations in celebrity boxing events.
