Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City failed to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 19. The Gunners ended their long wait for a league title, securing their 14th English championship.
How the Title Was Won
Manchester City needed a victory to close the gap to Arsenal to just two points and take the title race to the final day of the season on Sunday. However, a 39th-minute goal from Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi put City behind. Erling Haaland's stoppage-time equalizer came too late for Pep Guardiola's side to turn things around, handing Arsenal the title.
Arsenal's Historic Achievement
This is Arsenal's first league title since the 2003-04 season when the 'Invincibles' went unbeaten under Arsene Wenger. The club has now won 14 English titles, placing them behind only Liverpool and Manchester United, who have 20 each. Arsenal have been runners-up in the league for the past three seasons.
Final Game and Champions League Final
Arsenal's final game of the campaign will be against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Mikel Arteta's team have also booked a place in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30. They will look to become European champions for the first time and cap what would be the club's greatest ever season.
