Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to draw inspiration from Arsenal Football Club's Premier League title victory. Arsenal clinched their first league crown in 22 years after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night. The result gave Mikel Arteta's side an unassailable four-point lead with one match remaining.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku congratulated Arsenal, its players, coaching staff, and millions of supporters worldwide. He described the triumph as a testament to resilience, discipline, strategic leadership, and belief in long-term vision—qualities he said mirror his own commitment to public service and national development.
Atiku emphasized that Arsenal's success was not instantaneous but resulted from years of rebuilding, disciplined planning, and bold decision-making. He noted that his economic blueprint has consistently prioritized private sector-led growth, job creation, and economic restructuring to unlock productivity and prosperity.
He stated, "Just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must invest in its people, reform its institutions, and stay committed to a coherent economic strategy." Atiku praised Nigerian fans for their unwavering support through highs and lows, calling their loyalty a reflection of the enduring Nigerian spirit.
Drawing parallels to his political journey, Atiku stressed that meaningful change requires patience, courage, and consistency. He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful that with unity and the right leadership, the 2027 election could mark a brighter chapter for the nation.
He also commended Arsenal's leadership for building a cohesive team based on youth development and tactical intelligence. Looking ahead, he encouraged the club to aim for the UEFA Champions League, stating, "The spirit that delivered the Premier League title can secure a historic double."
Atiku concluded by expressing hope that Arsenal's victory would inspire renewed optimism and unity among Nigerians at home and abroad.
