Former Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday. The 31-year-old Portuguese international's contract at City expired at the end of last season, ending his nine-year trophy-laden stint at the Etihad Stadium.
Contract Details
Silva has signed a two-year deal with Real Madrid, becoming the club's second free transfer signing of the summer. Earlier, Real had secured defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth £52 million. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also made offers for Silva, but he opted to accept Real Madrid's proposal.
Manchester City Career
Silva scored 76 goals in 460 appearances for City after joining from Monaco in 2017 for a reported £43 million. During his time at the club, he played a key role in winning six Premier League titles, one Champions League, and 16 major trophies overall. In his final season, Silva captained City and played in all 38 Premier League matches as they finished second, while also winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Real Madrid's Summer Business
Real Madrid have been active in the summer transfer window. In addition to Silva and Cucurella, the club is set to announce deals for free agents Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries. Silva becomes the latest addition to Carlo Ancelotti's squad as they look to defend their La Liga title and compete in the Champions League.
