Rafiu Durosinmi scored his fourth goal in four Belgian Pro League matches for KRC Genk, reinforcing his bid for a regular place in the Super Eagles squad ahead of Nigeria's AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. The 23-year-old converted a ninth-minute penalty as Genk thrashed SK Beveren 4-0 at the Cegeka Arena on Thursday night, with Junya Ito, Josue Ndenge Kongolo, and Joris Kayembe adding the other goals.
Durosinmi Credits Teammates After Another Goal
After the match, Durosinmi credited his teammates for his scoring streak. "I feel very good and, above all, I am very happy. This is a good start. The team helped me to score," he told Het Belang van Limburg. "We have a lot of quality in the squad and when you have a good group, it becomes easier to play."
The goal against Beveren extends Durosinmi's run of scoring in every league game since joining Genk. His first came on debut against Zulte Waregem, when he headed in a Junya Ito cross and earned the Man of the Match award despite a losing cause. The following weekend, he scored from the penalty spot as Genk came from two goals down to beat Westerlo 3-2.
Record Signing Making Immediate Impact
Durosinmi arrived in Belgium as Genk's most expensive signing, with the club paying Pisa €10.5 million for his services on a four-year contract running until June 2030, according to Transfermarkt. His third goal came in a dramatic 4-4 draw with Royal Antwerp on August 22, a game where Genk led 4-1 with ten minutes remaining before Antwerp staged a stunning comeback.
His early form has drawn comparisons to Tolu Arokodare, the Nigerian forward who played for Genk before winning the Belgian Golden Boot and moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Durosinmi has made no secret of his ambitions, declaring after his debut goal that he aims to win the Golden Boot this season.
Super Eagles Selection Pressure Mounts
Durosinmi earned his first Super Eagles caps during the 2026 Unity Cup, featuring against Zimbabwe and Jamaica, before also appearing in a friendly against Poland on the eve of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With Victor Osimhen remaining Nigeria's first-choice centre-forward, Durosinmi's form in Belgium puts him firmly in contention for the squad spot behind the Galatasaray striker.
