The Abeokuta Golf Club is brimming with players and golf enthusiasts as the Eighth OBJ Golf Tournament teed off at the iconic club. Powered by First Bank, the tournament features top professionals, amateurs, caddies, and staff of the club.
First Bank Reaffirms Commitment
Speaking at the media briefing heralding the tournament, First Bank reaffirmed its commitment to the yearly event, pledging continuous sponsorship. Business Manager, Public Sector Directorate of FirstBank, Adeniran Oladele, noted that the financial institution prioritises initiatives that foster unity and bring people together in conducive sporting environments that the OBJ Golf Tournament offers.
He said: “Our support for this competition is not a mistake because FirstBank is a legacy institution, and if you have legacy ideas like the OBJ golf tournament, FirstBank will always throw its weight behind it. Because we have been around for a while, it is easier for the bank to recognise the legacy which former President Olusegun Obasanjo has built, and that is why we at FirstBank keyed into it; that commitment remains unshakeable.”
Oladele disclosed that FirstBank’s sports sponsorship programme is driven by its first@sport initiative, a long-standing sports sponsorship and empowerment platform designed to promote sports talent in football, basketball, polo, golf, and tennis, while fostering social impact and national unity among Nigerians, especially the youths.

The Captain of the Abeokuta Golf Club, Umar Bakare, thanked the bank for its consistent backing, describing it as a reliable partner. The captain, who noted that the club is already looking forward to a bumper ninth edition, said lots of exciting prizes have been laid out in this year’s edition.
The club’s Competition Secretary, Tolulope Olugbemi, confirmed that this year’s edition will feature a highly competitive field of top professional golfers, amateurs from across the country, caddies, and staff of the club.
