Former French international and Olympique Marseille defender Ronald Zubar has declared Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen as the best player in Africa. Osimhen, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray before making a permanent move for a record €75 million, has continued to impress across Europe.
Osimhen's Success at Galatasaray
Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has won the Super Lig and Super Cup, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists. In his second season, despite missing matches through injury and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he netted 22 goals and added eight assists in 33 appearances, according to Sofascore.
Zubar's Praise for Osimhen
Ronald Zubar, who also played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and New York Red Bulls, lauded Osimhen's fighting spirit and leadership. Speaking to Bookmaker Ratings, Zubar said: "I watched the Africa Cup of Nations and I like Osimhen, the Nigerian striker. I like his fighting spirit, the winning mentality he has in him and how he tries to bring every member of his team with him." Zubar also expressed his wish that Nigeria had won the 2025 AFCON, stating: "They deserved it. From the goalkeeper to the strikers, they have the best players in Africa."
Journalist Calls Osimhen Unstoppable
Nigerian sports journalist Amaechi Agbo described Osimhen as unstoppable. In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Agbo noted that Osimhen has dominated football in France, Italy, and Turkey within six years. "Victor Osimhen is loved by Galatasaray fans and has a huge followership in Nigeria. He is currently unstoppable and at the peak of his career," Agbo said. "Any team Osimhen joins will get the best from him because he is a team player."
Mourinho's Interest in Osimhen
Earlier reports indicated that Jose Mourinho had urged Real Madrid to sign Osimhen as part of his conditions to return to the Spanish club. Mourinho has long admired the Nigerian striker, though they have never worked together, having faced each other in Italy and Turkey.
