Ex-Super Eagles Star Advises Osimhen to Join Real Madrid

Former Super Eagles striker John Utaka has offered guidance to Victor Osimhen regarding his next career move, as the Nigerian international attracts interest from several elite European clubs. Osimhen, who currently plays for Galatasaray, has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and most recently, Real Madrid.

Osimhen’s Journey from Napoli to Galatasaray

Osimhen became one of Europe's most sought-after strikers in 2023 after leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in decades. However, a protracted transfer saga in the summer of 2024 ended with him joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan. The Turkish club later made the move permanent for €75 million following an impressive campaign where he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists.

In his second season, despite injury and participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen netted 22 goals and added eight assists in 33 appearances. His consistent performances have reignited interest from top clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid Enters the Race

According to reports, Real Madrid recently joined the list of suitors at the request of potential future manager Jose Mourinho, who is reportedly considering a return to the club. Mourinho has long admired Osimhen, drawing comparisons to Didier Drogba, whom he coached at Chelsea.

Other clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest in strengthening their attacks with the Nigerian striker.

John Utaka’s Advice

Speaking to Brila FM, Utaka urged Osimhen to prioritize Real Madrid if Mourinho is indeed behind the interest. "If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies, and Real Madrid is a perfect fit," Utaka said.

He added: "Personally, I will plead with Osimhen to leave Galatasaray and go. Football is about winning trophies and creating history. If the club he’s going to gives him a better chance to win titles and grow financially, then he should take that opportunity."

Financial Considerations

Osimhen currently earns €21 million net per year at Galatasaray, according to the club’s official website. To match this, a club in a top-five European league would need to offer around €39 million gross. It remains uncertain whether any interested club can meet these financial demands.

Utaka believes that Real Madrid offers both trophy potential and financial growth, making it an ideal destination for Osimhen to further his career.
