FIFA Increases World Cup Final Top Ticket Price to $10,990 as Sales Reopen
FIFA has reportedly raised the top ticket price for the men's World Cup final to $10,990 (approximately £8,334 or €9,544) after reopening sales on Wednesday, according to reports from theticketingbusiness.com and the Associated Press. This marks a significant increase from the previous price of $8,680, which was listed following the tournament draw in December 2025.
Detailed Price Adjustments Across Ticket Categories
In addition to the top-tier price hike, FIFA has adjusted prices for other categories for the final match. Category two tickets are now priced at $7,380, up from $5,575, while category three tickets cost $5,785, compared to the earlier $4,185. These changes come as part of the final sales phase for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, with the final set to be hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Sales Launch and Technical Challenges
FIFA initiated the last-minute ticket sales phase yesterday, with the official resale and exchange marketplace slated to open today. The governing body had originally stated that tickets would be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis during this final phase. However, the reopening of sales was marred by technical issues and confusion among customers.
According to the Associated Press, tickets were listed for only 17 of the 72 group-stage matches and none of the knockout games. Additionally, many fans were misdirected to a "PMA late qualifier supporters sales phase," which is intended for supporters of the six recently qualified nations, leading to widespread frustration.
Fan Experiences and FIFA's Response
Reports indicate that some customers were stuck in virtual queues for over 90 minutes, with one fan expressing disappointment on X, stating, "I sat in the queue for hours to be put into the PMA section and was unable to purchase tickets. You should make it right." In response, FIFA clarified that only a limited number of tickets had been released initially, with additional tickets to be made available on a rolling basis in the coming days.
This development highlights the high demand and logistical challenges associated with one of the world's most prestigious sporting events, as fans scramble to secure seats for the 2026 World Cup final amid rising costs and sales disruptions.
