Alex Iwobi Predicts Super Eagles Victory at 2025 AFCON in Morocco
Iwobi: Nigeria Will Win 2025 AFCON, Makes Bold Manifestation

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has made a bold and confident declaration regarding Nigeria's chances at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Fulham star has predicted that the three-time champions will lift the trophy in Morocco.

Iwobi's Confident Manifestation for AFCON Glory

The 29-year-old player shared his optimistic forecast during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Diaspora Tour event held in London. Speaking to AY Suga, Iwobi expressed strong belief in the quality of the current squad under coach Eric Chelle.

"The last time AFCON (in Ivory Coast), we were really close but the only way we can improve on the last AFCON is to win it," Iwobi stated. He emphasized the team's potential, adding, "We have the players to do it, we believe we can, we just have to prove it. I would like to speak it into existence, I like to manifest, I want to say Nigeria (will win the AFCON)."

AFCON 2025: Tournament Details and Iwobi's Journey

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Iwobi, who has been a mainstay in the Super Eagles since his 2015 debut under then-coach Sunday Oliseh, brings significant experience to the squad. He earned his first senior cap in a 2-0 friendly victory against DR Congo, replacing former captain Ahmed Musa.

Now with 91 appearances for Nigeria, Iwobi's consistency for both club and country has cemented his place as a key figure. His prediction comes despite the recent disappointment of Nigeria failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to DR Congo in the African playoff final on November 16.

CAF Diaspora Tour and Past Controversy

Iwobi also highlighted the significance of the CAF Diaspora Tour, which also visited Tokyo. "The people need to understand how big the AFCON is, this little tour will show that Europe appreciates what Africa can bring. There a whole lot of talent and entertainment," he explained. He noted the positive turnout for the trophy tour in London.

The midfielder recently faced online criticism after sharing a video from the Super Eagles' base in Morocco during the World Cup playoffs, which showed a poor view from his hotel room. Iwobi later clarified that the video had been misinterpreted by fans.

As the Super Eagles prepare for the continental showdown, Iwobi's public manifestation of victory adds to the growing anticipation. The team will be looking to improve on their runner-up finish at the 2023 AFCON, where they lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast in the final.
