Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has sent a message to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their international friendly match scheduled for June. The Barcelona forward confirmed his availability for the game, which will take place in Warsaw as part of Poland's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lewandowski Confirms Participation
Lewandowski stated during an interview with Eleven Sports that he will definitely be part of the Polish squad for the June training camp. He emphasized his desire to participate in the matches and pay tribute to the late assistant coach Jacek Magiera, who passed away on April 10. The striker initially hinted at retirement after Poland's World Cup playoff loss but reversed his decision for these friendlies.
Nigeria's June Fixtures
The Super Eagles will play four matches during the May/June FIFA international window. They will face Zimbabwe on May 26 in the Unity Cup, followed by a match against either Jamaica or India. Additionally, Nigeria will take on Poland on June 3 and Portugal on June 10 in friendly matches.
These matches are crucial for Nigeria's FIFA ranking and serve as preparation for future competitions. Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has announced a strong squad for the friendlies, including new signing Arthur Okonkwo.
Lewandowski's Club Future
Beyond international duties, Lewandowski is set to leave Barcelona this summer after four seasons. The 37-year-old has not yet confirmed his next destination, but rumors link him to several clubs, including potential moves to Major League Soccer. He remains open to continuing his career rather than retiring.
The friendly against Poland will be a significant test for the Super Eagles, who are rebuilding under Chelle. Lewandowski's presence adds star power to the match, which will be held at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
