Liverpool's £125m Star Isak Out for Two Months After 'Reckless' Tackle
Liverpool's Isak faces two months out after injury

Liverpool's hopes for the second half of the Premier League season have suffered a significant blow with the news that star striker Alexander Isak will be sidelined for approximately two months.

Fractured Fibula Ends Isak's Run

The Swedish international sustained a serious injury during Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday. The incident occurred as Isak scored the opening goal, with Spurs defender Micky van de Ven making a challenge that Liverpool manager Arne Slot later branded as "reckless."

The club confirmed on Monday that the 26-year-old forward had undergone surgery for an ankle injury that included a fracture of the fibula. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Slot delivered the grim prognosis, stating the player faces a long recovery period.

Slot's Frustration and a Costly Setback

"It's going to be a long injury, for a couple of months," Slot revealed. "So, yeah, that's a big, big, big disappointment for him. And as a result also of course for us." The Dutch coach did not hold back in his criticism of the tackle from Van de Ven, suggesting it was inherently dangerous.

"The tackle of Van de Ven, if you make that tackle 10 times, I think 10 times there's a serious chance that a player gets a serious injury," Slot asserted.

This injury represents another frustrating chapter in Isak's brief Anfield career. The striker joined Liverpool from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day in September for a British record fee of £125 million, but his start has been plagued by problems.

He arrived lacking match fitness and then suffered a groin injury, limiting him to just 16 appearances and three goals across all competitions so far.

Liverpool's Attacking Crisis Deepens

Isak's absence could not have come at a worse time for the reigning champions. The Reds are already without Egyptian talisman Mohamed Salah, who is away on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Furthermore, forward Cody Gakpo is a doubt for the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This leaves manager Slot with severely depleted attacking options. The only fit senior forwards currently available are Hugo Ekitike, who is in good form, and the rarely used Federico Chiesa. This crisis will inevitably lead to speculation about Liverpool delving into the January transfer market to bolster their frontline.

When questioned about a potential move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, Slot remained typically tight-lipped. The injury may also influence the ongoing conversation around Mohamed Salah's future, following his recent controversial interview and links to Saudi Arabia.

Despite a mid-season collapse that saw six defeats in seven games, Liverpool have shown recent resilience. They are currently on a five-match unbeaten run and sit fifth in the Premier League table as they navigate this latest significant setback.
