Manchester United secure Tielemans in £36m deal
Manchester United have completed the signing of midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for a fee of £36 million. The 29-year-old Belgian international has agreed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, becoming the club's second midfield acquisition of the summer transfer window following the £50 million arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
Tielemans expressed his pride and excitement in a club statement, saying: "It's hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United. Signing for such a special club feels incredible; it is the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football. I have had the privilege of experiencing success in the game, and it has only increased my determination to achieve more. Wilcox hails Tielemans as outstanding Premier League midfielder
United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Tielemans as "one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League," adding that the Belgian possesses "all of the technical qualities, ambition and mentality" to succeed at Old Trafford. Tielemans joined Aston Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023 and went on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.
