Jose Mourinho Breaks Silence on Real Madrid Return Rumours amid Benfica Future
Mourinho Speaks on Real Madrid Return Amid Benfica Uncertainty

Jose Mourinho has spoken about his future at Benfica amid growing speculation linking him with a return to Real Madrid. The Portuguese manager, who currently leads the Lisbon club, addressed the rumours following a 2-2 draw against Braga.

Real Madrid's Interest in Mourinho

Real Madrid are reportedly seeking a new manager after two consecutive trophyless seasons. Xabi Alonso started the campaign but was dismissed in January, with Alvaro Arbeloa taking over as interim. According to reports from The Athletic, club president Florentino Perez favours Mourinho due to his experience in managing high-profile dressing rooms.

Mourinho's contract with Benfica runs until 2027, but includes a break clause worth €3 million. This figure is not expected to be an obstacle if the manager decides to leave.

Mourinho's Statements on His Future

Earlier this year, Mourinho claimed he would sign a new contract with Benfica without hesitation. However, after the recent draw, he appeared to backtrack. When asked if his earlier statement still stood, he replied: "No. Because March 1st is March 1st, and because the last week of the championship, the last two weeks of the championship, is not for thinking about the future, it's not for thinking about contracts."

He added: "It's for thinking about the mission we had, which was to perform the miracle of finishing second, and when I say miracle, I think you understand what I mean by miracle." Mourinho hinted that he would clarify his future after the final match against Estoril.

Potential Final Game for Mourinho at Benfica

Mourinho will coach what could be his last game in charge of Benfica against Estoril. A victory or draw would see his team finish the league season unbeaten. The match is scheduled for Saturday, and Mourinho stated: "I think that from Monday onwards I'll be able to answer that question, the question of my future as a coach and the future of Benfica."

Reports also suggest that Mourinho has demanded Real Madrid sign Victor Osimhen as part of his conditions to return. The Super Eagles forward is admired by Mourinho for his similarities to Didier Drogba.
