The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, scheduled for October. This event will follow the CAF 48th Ordinary General Assembly.
President Tinubu's Announcement
The NFF revealed that President Tinubu declared his readiness to host both the Congress and the Awards during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. This came after a meeting with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, which included Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
Significance of the Event
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly brings together key figures in African football, including presidents of CAF's 54 Member Associations, representatives from the six zonal unions, and senior football officials from across the continent. Hosting this event underscores Nigeria's prominent role in African football administration and development.
