Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has made a bold prediction about Victor Osimhen's goal-scoring capabilities this season, forecasting that the Nigerian striker will reach the 30-goal mark if he maintains his current form.
Osimhen's Spectacular Return to Form
Victor Osimhen has been in devastating form since recovering from an early-season injury in September. The Super Eagles forward has been delivering exceptional performances for both Galatasaray and the Nigerian national team, particularly shining in high-pressure competitions.
The striker has already netted twelve goals this season, with nine coming for his Turkish club and three for the Super Eagles. His most notable performances include scoring hat-tricks in both the UEFA Champions League and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Rohr's Confidence in His Former Protege
Gernot Rohr, who gave Osimhen his national team debut, expressed immense confidence in the striker's abilities. The Franco-German manager described Osimhen as "undoubtedly one of the best centre-forwards in the world" during his interview with Africa Foot.
"He's a true goalscorer who thrives in high-stakes matches," Rohr stated. "The Champions League, World Cup qualifiers, the Africa Cup of Nations, the Istanbul derbies… He loves a big atmosphere."
Rohr emphasized that given Osimhen's current scoring rate, hitting thirty goals this season is a realistic target. "It's early November, and he already has twelve goals. At this rate, he should finish the season with around thirty goals to his name," he added.
Record-Breaking Performance and Financial Impact
Osimhen's exceptional form has translated into significant financial benefits for Galatasaray. The Turkish champions made his transfer permanent for a record-breaking €75 million, and the investment appears to be paying dividends.
The Nigerian striker has already helped the club secure substantial financial rewards through his Champions League performances:
- Helped win three matches, earning €6.3 million in match bonuses
- Contributed to the €18.6 million qualification fee
- Became the competition's top scorer with his hat-trick against Ajax
According to Transfermarkt statistics, Osimhen previously played 19 matches under Rohr's management with the Super Eagles, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists while winning the bronze medal at AFCON 2019.
Nigerian football fans are now hoping Osimhen can maintain this exceptional form for crucial upcoming matches, including the World Cup playoff against Gabon and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
