Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African side Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season, the club announced on Sunday. The 30-year-old rejoins the Chilli Boys after spending the past seven months without a club, a period that impacted his international career and led to him losing his place in Nigeria's senior national team.
Chippa United confirms Nwabali's return
Chippa United announced the goalkeeper's return through its official social media channels, expressing delight at welcoming him back to the Eastern Cape. The club wrote: “Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys.” In a follow-up statement, the club added: “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali's rise and recent absence
Nwabali originally joined Chippa United from Nigerian club Katsina United in 2022. He rose to prominence after playing a key role in Nigeria's run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, where the Super Eagles finished as runners-up. However, following his mutual exit from Chippa United earlier this year, he had been without a club for five months, a situation that also impacted his place in the Super Eagles squad. The goalkeeper has now returned to competitive football with the South African club ahead of the new season.
