Kenya Pays $30 Million to CAF, Secures 2027 AFCON Hosting Rights
The Kenyan government has officially paid approximately 30 million dollars to the Confederation of African Football as the required fee for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. This significant financial commitment was confirmed by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Tuesday, marking a crucial step in Kenya's preparations for the prestigious continental tournament.
Fulfillment of Financial and Institutional Obligations
Salim Mvurya stated that Kenya has now fully met its financial and institutional obligations to CAF, demonstrating the country's steady progress toward co-hosting the 2027 AFCON. "I am pleased to announce that the Government of Kenya has fully met its financial and institutional obligations to CAF as we steadily advance towards co-hosting the 2027 AFCON," he declared. "In fulfilment of our commitments, the Government has remitted the requisite 30 million dollars hosting fee to CAF, reaffirming Kenya's credibility, readiness and unwavering commitment."
Regional Collaboration Under the Pamoja Bid
This payment solidifies Kenya's position as a co-host of the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the collaborative Pamoja bid. Mvurya emphasized that this move reinforces regional partnership and a shared dedication to delivering an exceptional sporting event.
