NFF Inaugurates Electoral Committees, Sets Elective Congress for September 26 in Lafia
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed that elections for its board will take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on September 26, 2026. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the NFF Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, which are tasked with conducting the elections and handling any related complaints, petitions, and appeals.
Committees Charged with Credible Election Conduct
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau inaugurated the committees at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, urging them to perform their duties impartially and without bias towards any candidates. He emphasized the importance of a transparent and fair electoral process to uphold the integrity of Nigerian football governance.
Composition of the Electoral and Appeals Committees
Before the inauguration, Gusau announced the members of the committees. The Electoral Committee includes Matthew Burka’a (SAN) as chairman, alongside Alhaji Babagoni Grema, Alhaji Bature Musa, Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie, Esq., and Dr. Akogun Olugbenga Omole, with Arinze Azubuike Anughele and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi serving as alternate members. The Electoral Appeals Committee comprises Justice C. J. Aneke, Benjamin Sati, and Professor Abdulmalik Awwal, with Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam as alternates.
Commitment to Free and Fair Elections
Speaking on behalf of the committees, Matthew Burka’a, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, pledged to approach the task with utmost seriousness. He assured the NFF, football enthusiasts in Nigeria, and the global community that the committees would conduct a free, fair, credible, and widely accepted election. Burka’a highlighted the international attention from FIFA, CAF, and the Nigerian football family, vowing to make this election the best in NFF history.
Secretary Appointment and Statutory Compliance
In line with the NFF Statutes, Gusau also announced that Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, will serve as secretary to both committees, ensuring adherence to procedural guidelines and facilitating smooth operations throughout the electoral process.
