The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the dissolution of the boards of six para sports federations in Nigeria, effective immediately. The decision, disclosed on Monday, is part of the Commission's ongoing efforts to ensure a transparent, credible, and seamless electoral process leading to the emergence of new leadership across these federations.
Affected Federations
The dissolved boards include those of the Amputee Football Federation, Para Athletics Federation, Para Powerlifting Federation, Para Swimming Federation, Para Soccer Federation, and Para Volleyball Federation. These boards were inaugurated on July 20, 2022, and have played significant roles in providing leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for the growth and development of para sports in Nigeria.
Appreciation and Transition
The NSC expressed its appreciation to the presidents, vice presidents, board members, and stakeholders of the affected federations for their dedication, service, and contributions during their tenure. In a statement, the Commission noted that the dissolution forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance structures, promote accountability, and ensure that electoral processes within the federations are conducted in accordance with established principles of fairness, transparency, and credibility.
All outgoing board members have been directed to immediately hand over all federation properties, records, documents, and official responsibilities to the respective secretaries-general. These secretaries-general will oversee the administration of the federations pending the conduct of elections and the inauguration of new boards.

The NSC assured athletes, coaches, technical officials, partners, sponsors, and the general sporting public that necessary arrangements have been put in place to guarantee continuity in the operations and activities of the federations throughout this transition period.
