Bukola Olopade Appointed Chairman of Main Organising Committee for National Intermediate Games
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially unveiled the composition of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the first-ever edition of the National Intermediate Games. This landmark event is scheduled to take place later this year in Lagos State, marking a significant step in Nigeria's sports development agenda.
Committee Leadership and Key Appointments
Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, will serve as the Chairman of the committee, bringing his extensive experience in sports administration to the forefront. The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee has been designated as the Vice Chairman, ensuring seamless coordination between national and local levels. Olalekan Alabi has been appointed as the Secretary, responsible for managing administrative duties and communications.
The committee includes a diverse group of members, such as Amaka Ashiofu, Niyi Beyioku, Thecla Para, Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Dr. Rabiu Mohammed, Mbora Ikana, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, Yusuf Ali, Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, and Michael Obasi. Additional appointees are Salisu Abubakar, Seyi Johnson, Rekiya Amedu, Kawu, Ahmad Muazu, Olufisayo Odiaka, Mariam Akande, and a representative of the State Director of Sports, ensuring broad representation and expertise.
Objectives and Expectations for the Games
In announcing the committee, Olopade emphasized its critical role in overseeing preparations and guaranteeing the successful delivery of the inaugural National Intermediate Games. He stated, "We expect the committee to bring its expertise to bear in laying a solid foundation for the National Intermediate Games." This initiative is designed to provide a competitive pathway for athletes above 15 years who have previously participated in the National Youth Games.
The Games are part of the NSC's broader sports development framework under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy (RHINSE), aimed at fostering talent and enhancing the sports economy. By creating this intermediate level, the NSC seeks to bridge the gap between youth and senior competitions, promoting sustained athletic growth and national pride.
