LASUSTECH Tennis Club Unveils 'Special Squad' for 2025 VC Cup Showdown
LASUSTECH Tennis names 'special squad' for VC Cup

Determined to avoid a repeat of last year's disappointment, the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) Tennis Club has announced a formidable 'special squad' for the 2025 Vice Chancellor's Tennis Cup. The high-stakes tournament, which commenced last week with internal qualifiers, reaches its thrilling climax today at the university's main campus in Ikorodu.

Star-Studded Lineup Ready for Battle

The club's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Christian Odedafena, released the official squad list, revealing the flagbearers who will carry LASUSTECH's hopes. Muyiwa Ogunkolade has been selected to represent the club in the highly competitive singles event. For the doubles, the pairs of Adeyemi Olaniyan and Adeniyi Yinusa, alongside Wasiu Aroyehun and Abiodun Adesokan, will take to the court. The Veterans' event will see the experienced duo of Adewumi Adisa and Abu Yinusa flying the club's colours.

Internal Qualifiers Set the Stage

The road to the main event was paved with intense internal competition last week, where players vied for a spot on the prestigious squad. The internal segment saw fiercely contested matches, with Group Two emerging top with 73 points, closely followed by Group Three with 71 points. Group One secured 47 points, while Group Four finished with 46 points, showcasing the depth of talent within the university's tennis ranks.

A Quest for Redemption Against Top Clubs

This afternoon, the LASUSTECH 'special squad' will face off against elite players from some of Lagos's most respected tennis institutions, including the Nigerian Navy Tennis Club, Mainland Tennis Club, and Ijebu Ode Tennis Club. The tournament, a yearly highlight organised by the School Tennis Club, enjoys significant backing from sponsors Coronation Insurance, Sovereign Trust Insurance, NEM Insurance, Capital Express, and Tangerine Insurance.

Club President Dimeji Jojoola and Captain Gafar Tayo have expressed strong optimism about their team's chances. Their confidence stems from a burning desire to redeem the club's image after losing the singles final to the Police College Tennis Club last year. The leaders believe their carefully selected squad has what it takes to go all the way this time.

Winners of the various categories at the Vice Chancellor's Cup are set to be rewarded with an array of prizes, including valuable household electronic items. The event continues to be a major draw, attracting tennis talent and enthusiasts from various clubs across Lagos State.
