Second National School Volleyball Championships Launch in Lagos with High Hopes
The Second National School Volleyball Championships have officially commenced at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, drawing schools from various regions of Nigeria. This four-day tournament, which started today, is a collaborative effort between the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), with additional support from the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC). Teams hailing from states such as Lagos, Osun, Rivers, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Ogun, Taraba, and Bauchi are participating, with NVBF technical officials on hand to scout for emerging talents. The organizers have emphasized that this championship serves as a critical platform for discovering players who may compete at the International School Sport Federation (ISF) World School Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place from July 1 to 10 in China. This global event offers young athletes a unique chance to display their skills in front of international scouts and gain valuable experience.

In a pre-championship address, Olabisi Joseph, President of the NSSF, expressed her enthusiasm for the increasing popularity of volleyball among schools nationwide. She encouraged all participants to act as exemplary ambassadors for their institutions and commended the NVBF for its technical assistance. "In Nigeria, we are blessed with an abundance of talent in the school system. Volleyball, being one of the most popular sports in schools, has ignited healthy rivalry among students," Joseph stated. She further highlighted the educational benefits of sports, noting, "Sport stimulates learning, so we are building a total child through events like this." Joseph also underscored the significance of the ISF World Championship, describing it as a pivotal opportunity for selected athletes to compete internationally and showcase their abilities.
